Four years ago, we made the crazy decision to leave our home state of Georgia and see what life in the Midwest might bring. It was a hard transition for me and I spent much of that first year trying to figure out a way to move back home. And then a funny thing happened: this became home.
I learned how to drive on icy roads and trudge my way to work in the snow. I learned how high corn should be by the 4th of July. I grew closer to my husband's family and watched how much he loved spending more time with them.
This apartment is where I brought my son home from the hospital. The supportive community here made my transition into motherhood a smooth and beautiful one, and I am so thankful this is where we lived when I gave birth.
I'll miss walking the dog and the baby to the park near us. I'll miss the salad at Sparti's, the pizza at Mesa, the frozen yogurt at Yotopia, and the cupcakes at Molly's. I'll miss the predictable season changes and the clear view of the night sky. I'll miss the beautiful library and the delightful Children's Museum. I'll miss the excitement of Hawkeye football games right down the street. I'll miss boating in the summer and sledding in the winter (although I still fully expect to do both during visits). I'll miss Sunday morning sermons at Antioch and lunch at Culvers afterward. Most of all though, I'll miss the wonderful people here.
It's hard to believe our time here is over. We are moving on to the next adventure as Dustin starts his Air Force career. Thanks for a great four years, Iowa! See you at Christmas!
